The past few weeks

In the whirlwind that makes up the end of the school year.....the past few weeks has been full!  This guy played Beetoven's Moonlight Sonata at his piano recital June 7.  He said he was super nervous but he totally nailed it, all 5 and a half minutes of this piece completely memorized.  His teacher gave him a Bravo at the end, which was totally deserved.  Later on that night (no photos), he had 3 goals and an assist to win the last Cape league lacrosse game over North Shore at Berwick Academy.  What a fantastic day for him, and one we will soon not forget.  Keeping it real, he has had struggles and teeenage insecrities with self confidence and things he has had to overcome with his "performances".  My tune to him is always "We are going to love you no matter what" and we just keep showing up.  Even though I don't always come through with such positive messages to them, that's the parent I want to be.  Parenting big kids, is so, so hard.  It's uncharted territory really, and I will find my way...eventually.
The little brother made a paper chain to count down the last days of school and his last days in elementary.  After 8 years with a child in our elemenatary school that door is closing for us.
Wacky Wednesday suits him.  "pants for hair" he says.  Buddy, your relentless detemination is going to change the world.
The middle school boys finished up their lax season (and we finished up with our emailing/team manager duties....PHEW!) on a rainy Monday.  The boys had a fun practice fun awards and sweet treats.  T got the "toughest pound for pound" award.  hands down...the coach said.
B finished up her last GS meeting of the year on Tuesday (no photo here for the girls privacy) with a party and slideshow.  We missed alot of events this year due to our busy schedule so we are hoping to do more of the overnights next year (on our bucket list). The girls got Pen Pals from England to write to over the summer.  What a great group of girls and leaders.  On the way out we spotted that our brick had finally been installed in front of the new school!
this one is swiming pool obsessed.  He is so proud of getting over his fear of going under water and having to plug his nose.  I don't think I'll ever tire from "Mom, watch me!  did you see what I did?"  Yeah, laundry and dishes can wait!  We have a little fish on our hands (it's been a long time coming)

Anything he can help his daddy with he does.  Even if it's just sitting along side him working on his own "project"  Right now it's handsewing pillows, collecting nails, or "mowing" Kind of reminds me of my Dad and youngest brother  growing up.
The garden has been mostly unattended.  I take the "throw it in the ground on Mother's Day and wait and see what happens" approach.  I still like babying the plants to save them from the weeds from time to time.  This year I have been using some mulch left over from some stumps we had removed from the backyard last fall.  Righ now we have strawberries and greens, peonies and garlic scapes (can't wait to try the garlic scape pesto!).  We have nine apples on the tree this year ,  2 peaches, raspberries and blueberries.  Flowers are blooming everywhere and the grass is green.  There is nothing I love more than walking around the yard to see how everything is growing (even the weeds!) on a  June evening.

And that's a wrap on another school year for our 7th grader, 4th grader and 2nd grader.  They had great years these three.  Big brother ended up with a honor roll all year and high honors two quarters.  He worked hard to get accepted into the HS Algebra class for 8th grade.  He's so fortunate in how easy school comes for him.

B had a fantastic year in a totally inclusive class.  Honestly, when we decided to make the switch, we had no idea how it would go.  Words can not say enough to Thank her awesome, incedible educational team.  They are the reason that she feels like she BELONGS!  They are my heros. With this, and the right advocacy, she is just going to continue to shine in school and in life!    Go, B go!

L had another year with a fantastic teacher who I now call a friend (our 4th in a row with her), where he continues to push the envelope on all things creative.  As he put it when he got off that bus the last day..."I'm free!"
We celebrated with our tradtional Flatbread pizza and brownie Sundae dinner sitting outside and watching the boats come in by the pier downtown.  We were minus one boy as he was "off" with friends at a bondfire (parent supervised)  to burn up their 7th grade year (minus what I kept for the scrapbook)
And last, but not least, as we get out summer started, T had his very First paying job (not out of my pocket!) as ball boy for the State Lax championships.  They got $15 dollars a game, not to mention a fun time watching a game they love.

So, that's a wrap, and as I'm finding my way with the transition of a school year, and finding my way struggling to find my place as mom to not littles but bigs.....I'm finding that I need to rearrange and rethink the things that make me happy.  This space might be a bit quietier thatn usual this summer...(or not!)  depending on what I'm working on at the time.  It's still importnat to me and YOU as readers are important to me, so I hope that time allows me to get back to this space as often as I once did.  Happy summer Y'all!

3 June

Dear B,

I'll never forget how hard you worked this year on reciting your Henry Wadsworth Longfellow poem this week.  I don't even know what half the words mean.  With tears in my eyes I watched you practice night after night, making sure you paused to look up at the audience, say the words with the exclamation points loud (like "SHOUT!), and take a bow with a cute little embarrassed smile at the end.  Just like everyone else in your 4th grade class.  You work 150 million times harder than anyone I have ever met or known.  The quote below just about sums up how proud I am of you.

"Having you has changed me more than any other event in my life, Overall, I think I'm a better person that I was before.  I try to see things from different perspectives.  I try to listen more carefully.  I try to remember that everyone has something going on. What makes me the happiest is watching you navigate this world, unencumbered by your diagnosis."

I love you girlie!
Keep rocking it!
Love,
Mommy

2 June

The weekend lens.....Saturday the weather was amazingly beautiful for the games.  The boys all lined up and had their names called out before the game started.  Probably won't happen again until High school.

The little boy had a practice scrimmage also.  The sprinklers were going off on the side of the field, so this group spent a while playing in them.  They are having fun.
 His famous "celly"
wanted to play goalie for some reason.
 The team cheer.
T finished his "Ranger Challenge" 8 miles run, 800 passes completed 800 ground balls, 400 sit ups ans 400 push ups.  Something tells me I should have been doing it with him...sigh.
pooltime!  It's up to 81 degrees, I even went in and it's not even June yet.

Saturday last minute date night thanks to our awesome live in babysitter.  It's sipping (just one) cold and refreshing drink outside on the patio at a cozy local restaurant time.
Love that.  We won't talk about the rainy and cold Sunday.....and Monday...and Tuesday (or the fact that we had our fire going in June!) now will we :)
